Is It Ever Right To Lie?

The Bible instructs us to tell the truth and warns us about the consequences of lying.

Jesus is our wonderful example, for there was no deceit in His mouth (1 Peter 2:22)

We must always speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15)

If our telling the truth endangers others, silence is our best response.

When David ran ahead of God, he found himself in trouble and lied.

The safest thing is to stay away from those situations and to pray:-

“Lead us not into temptation”

In my childhood I was always taught to ‘tell the truth and shame the devil’ – a philosophy to which I have always tried to uphold, however challenging it may be to me throughout my 66 years of earthly life!

With many peaceful blessings

  1. As the old saying goes… ‘ Honesty is the best policy’. Jesus did not speak to us about things outside of our grasp. All of His teachings are within our grasp, and the strength to do them lies within us. Honesty says, ‘ I care more about what I think of me, than what you think of me’.
