The Holy Spirit

If I didn’t carry a great destiny, the devil wouldn’t be bothered with me.

If there wasn’t a great testimony for me in the future, I would have a non-eventful life. Remember, an unfruitful tree doesn’t suffer pushing, plucking and stone throwing. I am carrying solutions. I am carrying greatness. Get behind me Satan. You lost a very long time ago when Jesus rose from the dead!

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

(2 Corinthians 13: 14)

The Holy Spirit is often the most ignored person in the Church.

During a church service how often do you hear the Holy Spirit being mentioned in prayers, hymns or sermons?

And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, constrained by the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to be there, except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and afflictions await me.

(Acts 20: 22-23)

For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these requirements, that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these you will do well.

(Acts 15: 28-29)

The Holy Spirit loves people talking about Him and to Him.

Think about it this way. If you knew someone was ever present in your life but you never talked to them and never shared your life with them, you would soon grow distant from them.

And so it is with the Holy Spirit. If you do not talk with Him, or share things with Him, He is not going to respond to you.

But if, on the other hand, you talk to the Holy Spirit every day and ask Him whenever you need His help or guidance He will amaze you by answering your prayers and requests.
Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit 19 times in John 14/15 and 16

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice.

Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

(Ephesians 4: 29-31)

And whoever speaks a word against the son of man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

(Matthew 12: 32)

The Spirit of God

There is no set formula to becoming a Christian, but many people have found saying this prayer to be a helpful first step in establishing a relationship with our Father God and the Holy Spirit:-

Lord Jesus Christ,

I am truly sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life.

Please forgive me.

I now turn from everything that I know is wrong.

Thank you that you died on the cross for me so that I could be forgiven and set free.

Thank you that you offer me forgiveness and the gift of your Holy Spirit.

Please come into my life by your Holy Spirit to be with me forever.

Thank you Lord Jesus

We can read in the book of Genesis that the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters, as the heavens and earth were created.

Today, the Holy Spirit still continues to work with miraculous power and gentleness.

Our finite minds will never be able to fully comprehend the infinite miraculous nature of God and the Holy Spirit, but our prayers to them will always be heard.

Our desire should be for the Holy Spirit to continually fill our lives to over-flowing so that we can grow each day to be more like Jesus Christ.

And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”

The Holy Spirit at work in your life

Will you allow the Holy Spirit to work in your life?

Will you allow him to sanctify you?

Will you manifest the “fruit of the spirit?”

Have you discovered the spiritual gifts that the Holy Spirit has given you?

Are you prepared to let the Holy Spirit use you in the body of Christ?

The Holy Spirit wants to take up personal residence inside of you.

You must listen very carefully to the Holy Spirit, because He loves to encourage and empower you providing you are willing to obey His voice as you read and study the Scriptures:-.

  1. 1 Corinthians 12:11“All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as He wills.”
  2. 1 Corinthians 2:10These things God has revealed to us through the Spirit. For the Spirit searches everything, even the depths of God.
  3. Ephesians 4:30“And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
  4. Here are other passages that describe the Holy Spirit doing something that only a person could do:-  Acts 16: 6 – And they went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia. Matthew 10: 20 – For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
  5. Romans 8:26 – Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.
  6. Acts 8:29And the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot”
  7. Romans 8:15–16“For you did not receive the Spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our Spirit that we are children of God.”
  8. 2 Timothy 3:16“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness.”
  9. 2 Peter 1:21“For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”
  10. 1 Corinthians 6:19 “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God?”
  11. John 3: 5-6 – Jesus answered, “Truly, truly I say to you, unless one is born of water and the spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the spirit is spirit.
  12. Matthew 12:31“Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.”
  13. John 15:26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of Truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.”
  14. John 16:7“Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you.”
  15. John 16:13 “When the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will declare to you the things that are to come.”
  16. Mark 1:10–11And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove.

Symbols of the Holy Spirit

Dove (John 1:32)

And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove and it remained on him.

Fire (Acts 2: 3-4)

And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Fire (Matthew 3:11)

I baptise you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Oil (1 John 2: 20)

But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.

Rivers of Water (John 7:37-39)

On the last day of the Feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given because Jesus was not yet glorified.

A Man After God’s Heart

Doctor Who’s Tardis is more than just an old fashioned police box! It has the unique quality of being bigger on the inside than the outside! As we look at the life of King David we see somebody who wanted to grow his inner life: ‘a man after God’s own heart’ (Acts 13:22).

When Samuel anoints David as king (1 Samuel 16) he learns a vital lesson: ‘People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at
the heart’ . What lessons can we learn from this, as we seek to be used by God?

At a difficult point in Israel’s history, when Saul’s kingship had failed, God spoke to Samuel: ‘How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him as king over Israel?

Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king.’

God always has a plan to achieve his purposes, and he wants us to be part of them! He is always trying to communicate them to us; like Samuel, are we alert to what he telling us?

No doubt, Samuel expected choosing a king from among Jesse’s eight sons would be easy! However, it was only when the youngest was brought in from the fields that he recognised the one: ‘Rise and anoint him; this is the one.’  God uses unexpected people as part of his plan, including David and ourselves, when our heart is committed to him!

Even if we feel we have nothing to offer, he can use us in the workplace or with family and friends to make a difference for him.

Finally, we should note that David immediately returned to his flock of sheep, although the Spirit came powerfully upon him. So often God takes us back to ordinary circumstances of life to learn the skills we need to serve him, as well as proving ourselves faithful in the smaller
things before he trusts us with bigger opportunities. Whenever we’re feeling frustrated about God’s timetable don’t forget this!!

God is still looking for people to accomplish his purposes. When God looks at our heart, what does he see? Does God see a heart which is on fire for him, or are we largely indifferent to him or simply lukewarm?

Let’s make it our prayer to be ‘a man or woman after God’s own heart’.

The Power of God’s Word

Lord, help me to know you more. Enable me to understand my relationship with you through Jesus Your Son. Help me, Jesus, to understand all that you have accomplished for me on the cross.

Thank you for suffering and your death that saved me from the consequences of my wrong thoughts and actions.

I am eternally grateful that after you were crucified, you rose from the dead to prove that you are who you are. Your words and promises I hear and see without fail.

As you knock on the door of my heart. Teach me to hear your voice and open that door.

I receive you. I submit my life daily to you.

I declare that you are Lord over every area of my life, both now and forever.

Thank you for helping me to see who you really are.

Thank you for forgiving me all of my sins and for giving me a new beginning in my life.

Thank you, Holy Spirit, for helping me to live the right way; to show you my love for you, Jesus, by living in obedience to your daily commands.

In Jesus Name

Revelation 3: 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into Him and dine with him and he with me.

Acts 4:12 Nor is there is salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

May the Blessings of our Lord, Jesus Christ, go with you now and for every day in your life
