God – Our Forever Friend

God is continually reminding us that he is our forever friend. It is in the very heat of the action that we are to call upon his name, and he promises to hear and answer us. God requires that we are fully aware of our need for him, a need that is no less real than the day each of us first surrendered to God’s Lordship over our lives.

While I have numerous schemes and plans for self, aka godly improvement, every one of them is incomplete unless it is birthed in the heart of God through prayer. I, like the psalmist, regularly cry out to God, ‘hear my prayer…for I need your help’. Humbly accepting my own need creates the space for God to be present to me. Until and unless I admit my reactive nature as something broken within me, neither Katey nor Jayne could get through my defensive wall of word and emotions and support me back on to a road to recovery.

You, and I, like to live in a world in which our behaviour and perspective is the point that calibrates everything and everyone. However, the only point of calibration you need to worry about is God. It is to God you call out in times when doubts and insecurities grow strong and begin to exercise their muscle. Your behaviour reflects whom you serve, and scripture reminds us that Jesus, who we have committed to follow, was ‘meek and lowly in heart’ (Matthew 11:29, KJV).

Friendship

Friends are like jewels, precious and rare,
Loved and respected and treated with care.
Friends reveal facts in good times and strife,
Compassion, strength, humour, fashioned from life.

Friends sparkle like diamonds, or quietly glow,
Their love and companionship on us bestow.
Friendship’s a jewel of priceless design,
Strong as a rock and constant as time.

A Special Friend

A Special Friend is one who will put you first.
Love you for yourself.
Accept your faults
Lend a helping hand in time of need.
Help your dreams to keep going
Brings you joy to warm your heart
Makes you feel wanted and welcome.

A special friend has time to care
He/she has time to love
He/she loves enough to understand.

The gift of special friendship is rare.
It is priceless. It is a treasure, and I am happy that you are my friend!

Thank you for being my friend

Dear God

I know you’re watching over me
And I’m feeling truly blessed
For no matter what I pray for
You always know what’s best!

I have this circle of E-mail friends,
Who mean a lot to me;
Somedays I “send” and”send,”
At other times, I let them be.

I am so blessed to have these friends,
With whom I’ve grown so close;
So this little poem I dictate to them,
Because to me they are the “Most”!

When I see each name download,
And view the message they’ve sent;
I know they’ve thought of me that day,
And “well wishes” were the intent.

So to you, my friends,
I would like to say,
Thank you for being a part;
Of all my daily contacts,
This comes right from my heart

Friendship

My thought(s) for the day are about friends:-

  • The secret of friendship is being a good listener
  • A true friend is someone you can trust with all your secrets
  • A true friend wants nothing more from you than the pleasure of your company
  • Friendship is a candle whose flame grows brighter when the hour is darker

How many really good friends do you have?

I know that I have (literally) hundreds of ‘friends’ on Facebook and Linkedin, living in all four corners of our world, yet I only have a relatively few friends that I know well enough to trust with my life.

Am I unusual in this regard – or do you have the same thoughts?

Enjoy Each Day

Another year has passed
And we’re all a little older.
Last summer felt hotter
And winter seems much colder.
There was a time not long ago
When life was quite a blast.
Now I fully understand
About ‘Living in the Past’ .

We used to go to weddings,
Football games and lunches..
Now we go to funeral homes
And after-funeral brunches.

We used to have hangovers,
From parties that were gay.
Now we suffer body aches
And whine the night away.

We used to go out dining,
And couldn’t get our fill.
Now we ask for doggie bags,
Come home and take a pill..

We used to often travel
To places near and far.
Now we get sore asses
From riding in the car.

We used to go to nightclubs
And drink a little booze.
Now we stay home at night
And watch the evening news.

That, my friend is how life is,
And now my tale is told.
So, enjoy each day and live it up…
Before you’re too damned old!

I’m Not Afraid To Be Alone

I’m not afraid to be alone,
It doesn’t bother me;
It gives me time to think,
To let my thoughts go free.

I like to plan the days ahead,
Recall events long past,
To wonder what the future holds
—Time goes so very fast.

I may not finish all I plan,
I know I often stray;
When memories of youth intrude,
There’s no work done that day.

I think of friends from long ago,
I very seldom see,
No, I’m not lonely by myself,
My thoughts are company.

PS Margaret’s poem resonates deeply with me. I am not afraid to be alone either; even though I am disabled!
