Why Is God’s Plan For Man Not Being Realisd!

There are many reasons why God’s plan for man is not being realised, but the main one is very easy to see.

Many Christians simply do not believe in the Bible! And even if they do believe in the Word of God via the Bible how many Christians actually read the Bible in their daily lives?

For many Christians the only connection that they have with the Bible is when a passage or passages is read from the Bible during the Sunday Service in their church!

But like Israel who could not enter the Promised Land because of unbelief, we suffer from tremendous unbelief today. We say we believe in the Bible but one look at the Church shows that we do not.

And another problem equally as bad is that the Church is not being led by the Holy Spirit it’s being led by religious spirits, mostly in human form.

And in some churches that I have visited, the congregations appear to give greater worship and reverence to the people leading the Service than to God and the Holy Spirit.

Often it is all about personalities. And ego. When in a prayerful mode we need to ask that the Holy Spirit work in us and through us. We need to decrease and allow the Holy Spirit to increase within us.

Yet, sadly, many Church officials, including some Ministers, do not give all the glory and honour to our Father God, which is due to Him. But, instead, they feel that they are in a high place of authority within their church and that those worshipping in their church should pay homage and respect to them, rather than to God.

The Holy Spirit wants to work with Ministers and Lay Preachers so that they can speak His words to the Church congregation when giving their sermons.

He does not want them to read out their sermons in parrot-fashion; the Holy Spirit wants to inspire them so that they can speak, without notes, to give His message to all those eager to hear what He has to say.

But very few Ministers and Lay Preachers have the confidence – or ability – to do so. Some Ministers of my acquaintance even prepare their prayers in advance of the Service and read them!!

Many years ago one truly inspirational evangelist – Kathryn Kuhlman – preached at meetings in America where many many thousands of people would attend. People would queue for several hours before the doors of the auditorium were opened and the meetings themselves often lasted for more than three hours.

Although Kathryn passed away in 1976 I have watched numerous videos of her meetings on YouTube – and, to us in the 21st century, what she did is absolutely amazing and almost beyond belief.

Kathryn – through the Holy Spirit – was able to heal virtually any disease or illness, however minor or serious.

Those in need of healing would come up to the stage and Kathryn would say a few words to them, and ask them from what they were suffering. And, almost instantaneously, so it seemed anyway, they would fall backwards and on to the floor.

There were always several men behind the person receiving healing to catch them so that they did not hurt themselves when they fell backwards.

It was very dramatic but also very effective.

People who had long medical histories of ill health were cured and their cures were testified by their own physician!

Kathryn always said that it was not her that did the healing – but the Holy Spirit.

I found it very interesting – and I am sure you will too.

On The Lighter Side

Benjamin listened closely as the Rabbi read from the Bible.

“May I ask a question? Ben asked.

“Of course, go ahead, ask your question, ” replied the Rabbi.

“Well, the Bible says that the Children of Israel crossed the Red Sea, “continued Ben, “also that the Children of Israel built the Temple, the Children of Israel did this and the Children of Israel did that. Didn’t the grown-ups ever do anything?”

Christians United For Israel

During this season of Thanksgiving let us join King David in giving thanks to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob for He is good and His mercies endure forever! Whether you are standing on the mountain top or walking through a deep valley, the Word of God teaches the believer to give thanks to the Lord in all things

Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before Him with joyful songs. Know that the Lord is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and praise His name. For the Lord is good and His love endures forever; His faithfulness continues all generations. – Psalm 100

We especially thank the Lord for all of you who have locked your arms and joined your voices with Christians United for Israel to stand and pray with Israel and the Jewish people now and forevermore.

So we, Your people and sheep of Your pasture, Will give You thanks forever; We will show forth Your praise to all generations. – Psalm 79:13

May the Lord richly bless you with joy, peace and hope as you gather your family to celebrate God’s goodness during this Thanksgiving season.

Corrie Ten Boom

In 1837, Willem ten Boom opened a clock shop. Dedicated Christians, the family home above the shop was always an “open house” for anyone in need.

After an inspiring Dutch Reformed worship service in 1844, Willem started a weekly prayer service to pray for the Jewish people and the peace of Jerusalem (Psalm 122:6). His son Casper continued the tradition of prayer with his own family. These prayer meetings continued for 100 years-until February 28, 1944, when Nazi soldiers arrested Casper and his entire family for harbouring Jews.

During World War II, the ten Booms lived out their Christian faith by making their home a refuge–a hiding place–for Jews and members of the Dutch underground who were being hunted by the Nazis.

During 1943 and into 1944, there were usually as many as seven people illegally living in the ten Boom home–Jews and members of the Dutch underground. Additional refugees would stay with the ten Booms for a few hours or a few days until another “safe house” could be located for them.

Corrie became a ringleader within the network of the Haarlem underground. Corrie and “the Beje group” would search for courageous Dutch families who would take in refugees, and much of Corrie’s time was spent caring for these people once they were in hiding. Through these activities, the ten Boom family and their many friends saved the lives of an estimated 800 Jews, and protected many Dutch underground workers.

On February 28, 1944, Casper’s family was betrayed, and the Gestapo (the Nazi secret police) raided their home. The Gestapo set a trap and waited throughout the day, seizing everyone who came to the house. By evening, over 20 people had been taken into custody! Casper, Corrie, and Betsie were all arrested. Corrie’s brother Willem, sister Nollie, and nephew Peter were at the house that day, and were also taken to prison.

Although the Gestapo systematically searched the house, they could not find the two Jewish men, two Jewish women, and two members of the Dutch underground who were safely hidden behind a false wall in Corrie’s bedroom. Although the house remained under guard, the Resistance was able to liberate the refugees two days later.

The six people had managed to stay quiet in their small, dark hiding place, even though they had no water and very little food. The four Jews were taken to new “safe houses,” and three survived the war. One of the underground workers was killed during the war years, but the other survived. Because Nazi soldiers found underground materials and extra ration cards in their home, the ten Boom family was imprisoned. Casper (84 years old) died after only 10 days in Scheveningen Prison.

When Casper was asked if he knew he could die for helping Jews, he replied, “It would be an honor to give my life for God’s ancient people.” Corrie and Betsie spent 10 months in three different prisons, the last being the infamous Ravensbruck concentration camp located near Berlin, Germany. Life in the camp was almost unbearable, but Corrie and Betsie spent their time sharing Jesus’ love with their fellow prisoners.

Many women became Christians in that terrible place because of Corrie and Betsie’s witness to them. Betsie (59) died in Ravensbruck, but Corrie survived. Corrie’s nephew, Christiaan (24), had been sent to Bergen Belsen for his work in the underground. He did not return. Corrie’s brother, Willem (60), was also a ring leader in the Dutch underground. While in prison for this “crime,” he contracted spinal tuberculosis and died shortly after the war.

Four ten Booms gave their lives for this family’s commitment, but Corrie came home from the death camp. She realized her life was a gift from God, and she needed to share what she and Betsie had learned in Ravensbruck: “There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still,” and “God will give us the love to be able to forgive our enemies.”  At age 53, Corrie began a worldwide ministry that took her into more than 60 countries in the next 32 years! She testified to God’s love and encouraged all she met with the message that “Jesus is Victor.”

Corrie received many tributes because of her efforts.

Following the war, Corrie was honored by the Queen of Holland as a War Hero. In 1968, the Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem asked Corrie to plant a tree in the Garden of Righteousness, in honor of the many Jewish lives her family saved. Corrie’s tree stands there today. In the early 1970’s, Corrie’s book The Hiding Place became a best seller, and World Wide Pictures (Billy Graham Evangelistic Association) released the major motion picture “The Hiding Place.” Corrie went on to write many other inspiring books. There are five evangelical videos about Corrie.

Corrie was a woman faithful to God. She died on her 91st birthday, April 15, 1983. It is interesting that Corrie’s passing occurred on her birthday. In the Jewish tradition, it is only very blessed people who are allowed the special privilege of dying on their birthday!

In the tradition of the ten Boom family, The Corrie ten Boom Fellowship continues to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and encourages Christians to exercise their faith by helping the Jewish people.

The Corrie ten Boom Fellowship is a non-profit 501c(3) organization governed by a board of directors. Its purpose is to encourage Americans to pray for and encourage Jews around the world, but more specifically in Israel. Like the ten Boom family, it’s main goal is to encourage others to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. It gains no direction or funding from the State of Israel.

For more information about Corrie Ten Boom I would strongly recommend the Corrie Ten Boom website:-

http://www.tenboom.org

which is absolutely fascinating and describes at great length the powerful contribution of the whole Ten Boom family in hiding Jews and members of the Dutch Resistance from the Nazis during the second world war.

Nathan Rebukes David

I have just been reading Samuel 12: 1-12.

This story about David from the Bible has a very important message for everyone today.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“So the Lord sent Nathan the prophet to tell David this story. ‘There were two men in a certain town.
One was rich, and one was poor. The rich man owned a great many sheep and cattle. The poor man owned nothing but one little lamb he had bought.
He raised that little lamb, and the lamb grew up with his children. It ate from  the man’s own plate and drank from his cup.
He carried it in his arms like a baby daughter.
One day a guest arrived at the home of the rich man. But instead of killing an animal from his own flock or herd, he took the poor man’s lamb and killed it and prepared it for his guest.”
David was furious. “As surely as the Lord lives,” he vowed, “any man who would do such a thing deserves to die! He must repay four lambs to the poor man for the one he stole and for having no pity.”
Then Nathan said to David, “You are that man! The Lord, the God of Israel, says: ‘I anointed you king of Israel and saved you from the power of Saul. I gave you your master’s house and his wives and the kingdom of Israel and Judah.
And if that had not been enough, I would have given you much, much more.
Why then, have you despise the word of the Lord and done this terrible deed? For you have murdered Uriah the Hittite with the sword of the Ammonites and stolen his wife.
From this time on, your family will live by the sword because you have despised me by taking Uriah’s wife to be your own.’
“This is what the Lord says: ‘because of what you have done, I will cause your own household to rebel against you. I will give your wives to another man before your very eyes, and he will go to bed with them in public view.
You did it secretly, but I’ll make this happen to you openly in the sight of all Israel.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Think about it and you will understand how this story is relevant in our own lives today.

Our society, sadly, has not moved on since those days of David!

Ruth and Boaz

So she (Ruth) set out and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers, and she happened to come to the part of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the clan of Elimelech. Ruth 2:3

Ruth had recently come with Naomi, her Jewish mother-in-law, from the land of Moab. She was an impoverished stranger in a strange land, just hoping to eke out an existence. God had told Israel that they shouldn’t pick their fields clean in the harvest but leave the droppings and the edges for the poor to glean. That’s what Ruth was hoping to do – to find a field, any field, where she could get permission to glean enough for her and Naomi to survive a few days.

She found a field and she “happened” to come to a part of the field owned by a man named Boaz. She just “happened” to come there. At least that would have been how Ruth saw it. Little did she know, but someday, this “random” happening would lead to her becoming the wife of Boaz, and an ancestor of king David, and Jesus himself.

We can see that this is God’s providence. God was directing her every step. Years earlier, Naomi and her husband “happened” to decide to move to Moab, where they “happened” to meet Ruth, who “happened” to marry their son. Years later, forced by poverty, Naomi and Ruth “happened” to return to Israel, and now Ruth “happened” to come to a particular field.

How many times in our lives do we just “happen” to go somewhere or meet someone and later find out it was God’s wonderful providence? Yesterday as I preached, I saw a family sitting there who years ago, just “happened” to move next door to another family in our church, who invited them to a dinner where they heard the gospel and eventually got saved.

You didn’t just “happen” to meet your husband or wife. You didn’t just “happen” to wind up living where you live. You didn’t just “happen” to join your church. God has been directing your every step.

And life isn’t just “happening” to you. You may work under a miserable boss. You may be going through tough times. You may have just been told you need a hip replacement or have a serious sickness. That unexpected tax bill, that transfer to another job, that tree that fell on your garage… you get the idea. Nothing just “happens” to us. God may have transferred you so you’d meet someone you will share the good news of Jesus with. That tree that crushed your garage? The tree service foreman may someday lead the Children’s Ministry in your church.

The next time you ask, “Why is this happening to me?” remember God’s loving providence. He has you right where he wants you, for your good and his glory. Nothing just happens to us. Not a sparrow falls apart from God’s will. He hand crafts every snowflake and lightning bolt. Our blessings and our afflictions are tailor-made by the loving hand of God.

Keep an eye out for God’s providences in your life. Someday you will say, “Oh, so THAT’S why that happened.” It didn’t seem so good at the time, but if THAT hadn’t happened, I wouldn’t be enjoying THIS blessing right now.

And heaven will be the grand review of all God’s providences in our lives. Seeing how God orchestrated events and lives to bring you into the world, and bring you to Jesus and transform and use you for his glory. What an incredible day that will be.

From the pen of Mark Altrogge, Pastor of the Sovereign Grace Church.

Today, being St Valentine’s Day, Mark’s writings seem very appropriate.

I personally empathise with the whole question of ‘happenings’ – for I know that it was not by mere chance alone that my wife, Marlene, and I ‘happened’ to meet each other via the internet, and that we just ‘happened’ to get married – and that because we were living together after our marriage Marlene ‘happened’ to save my life when I was very seriously ill a year ago.

For I know that God has a special plan for Marlene and I and, for that, He needed me to be living an earthly life.

We may not always be able to ‘look round corners’ but providing we;-

Trust and obey,
For there’s no other way,
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey

the purpose for all our ‘happenings’ will be revealed unto us!
