Smiling

SMILING

The thing that goes the furthest toward making life worthwhile,

That costs the least and does the most……is just a pleasing smile;

The smile that bubbles from the heart, that loves its fellow-men,

Will drive away the clouds and gloom and bring the sun again.

There is no room for sadness……when we see a cheery smile,

It always has the same good luck, it’s never out of style,

It spurs us on to try again when failure makes us blue,

The dimples of encouragement are good…..for me and you.

Families

‘Family’ is an increasingly difficult word in today’s world. The word itself derives from the Latin meaning ‘servant of the household’, and perhaps the best understanding for familial relationships is that each one is to act as the servant of the other – thereby emphasising Paul’s teaching in Philippians, ‘put others’ interests over and above your own’. However, as a mediator who has been present at the breakdown of marriages, servanthood is the last thought in either party’s mind in a fractured family.

I recognise it will be a painful subject for many, without my rehearsing the long list of reasons here. Yet if this is painful for us, how much more painful is it for its originator, God? The very heart of marriage, itself the foundation for family, is established in the early chapters of Genesis. Man and woman are created as equals. The word describing Eve as a ‘helper’ actually means ‘one corresponding to’, so there is not distinction in status from the moment of creation, and all such gender wars are in fact the invention of a fractured humanity.

Scripture advises that a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife and become one flesh, which means they are a unique social unit and one single being and will realise God’s plan upon the earth together. As such a unit they are required to build a common life that expresses faithfulness to each other, the willingness to listen and to forgive each other, sharing economic risk alongside each other, parenting and educating children in the ways of God.

Men and women, of equal status and shared kinship, reflect between them the fullness of God, for neither one nor the other bears the total image of God; as scripture says, ‘So God created man in His own image…male and female He created them’ (Genesis 1:27, NKJV). The reality of God requires two distinct expressions of God’s highest creativity.

The Hug

No moving parts, no batteries,
No monthly payments and no fees,
Inflation Proof, non-taxable,
In fact, it’s quite relaxable.

It can’t be stolen, won’t pollute
One size fits all, so don’t dilute.
It uses little energy,
But yields results enormously.

It relieves your tension and your stress,
Invigorates your happiness,
Combats depression, makes you beam,
And elevates your self-esteem!

Your circulation it corrects –
without Unpleasant side-effects.
It is, I think, the perfect drug:
May I prescribe my friend……the hug?

Imprisoned Sudanese Pastors Need Our Prayers

Urgent prayers needed.

Pastor Michael Yat and Pastor Peter Yen Reith are currently in prison in Khartoum. They are accused of crimes against the state, with two of the crimes carrying the death penalty. The Judge is due to rule on whether there is a basis for the charges. If there is no basis, all charges will be dropped. Otherwise the Judge will allow the case to go to trial. Despite a lack of evidence, their lawyer believes that the two men will stand trial.

Please Pray:

  • That Pastor Michael and Pastor Yen will know the Lord’s peace and protection
  • That justice would be done, all charges would be dropped and they will be freed

Give thanks that the church in Sudan is still growing, despite increasing pressure and opposition.

From Open Doors – http://www.opendoorsuk.org

Please add your prayers to mine and pray for these two men of God – who have been imprisoned unfairly

With many peaceful blessings
