Trusting the Holy Spirit

Sometimes, the best course of action is for us to know and to believe that the Holy Spirit knows the direction that He is taking us.

We should always trust Him completely.

Let our faith be in our Father God and the Holy Spirit, not in ourselves.

If we plan something and it doesn’t happen, let us remember that it His will that is always to be done, and not ours!

Since I nearly died in January/February 2013 I have placed my complete trust and obedience in our Father God.

And He has never let me down!

Even in my darkest moments I know that He is with me, loving me, protecting me and guiding me to be where I need to be.

We must remember that we only possess a mortal finite mind, and a whole range of human desires, which often influence our prayers which we offer to God.

However, not all our prayers will be answered in the way that we expect or hope simply because our desires are not ultimately part of God’s Divine plan.

As we are unable to look around corners we have no clear idea of what is going to happen in our lives.

Only God knows what is going to happen to us and often He cleverly manoeuvres us into being in the right place at the right time, even if we cannot see the benefit of what is taking place in our lives at the actual time it is happening to us.

On such instances we have to learn to trust in our Father God.

We need to ask for the Power of the Holy Spirit as the disciples tarried in Jerusalem and waited for the power of God as it fell on them at Pentecost. We need to ask, worship and wait for the Power of God and go forth and tell the world about the good news of Jesus Christ.

When Jesus received the Power of the Holy Spirit He was sent into the desert where He was tested by Satan.

He overcame through the word of God. We too, when we receive the power of the Holy Spirit, will be tested. Will we then fall by the wayside or are we going to persevere and be overcomers?

We need to have absolute faith in Jesus Christ and be patient and wait for the Holy Spirit to empower and guide us. And at the right time, the Holy Spirit will put the right words into our mouth.

We need have no fear or be discouraged.

Jesus overcame the world. And we too shall overcome as we stand firm in our faith.

For Revelation 21:7 says:-

“The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son”.

When we have a seed to plant. We find a piece of ground, remove the weeds and make it ready to plant the seed. We put the seed in the ground, cover it, water it and then wait patiently.

The seed needs to die first and then through the nurture and nourishment from God, miraculously it begins to shoot, and it pushs its way through the hard soil and then you will see a tiny plant cautiously lift its head above the soil. God makes it grow into a tree with beautiful leaves and then when the time is right it will bear fruit.

In the same way, when we want to see our churches growing. We need to die. All our past, all  our lives need to undergo a metamorphosis, a complete change.

In repentance and forgiveness, we are cleansed of our past, and a new seed of the Holy Spirit is poured into us as we change, and a new transformation takes place within our whole being.

And remember that reading the word of God – the Bible – nourishes our minds and makes us grow.

If God is not using you, then have a look at your spiritual life.

How can you make your spiritual life to be in a better standing with God? The answer lies within us.  Acknowledge your call to God and put the vision He gives you into action.

If we do not act on our call or gifts, then we will be allowing our Godly visions and the people with whom we come into contact to perish because we are not winning their souls for God.

God places this responsibility upon you and me. He chose us Himself and we must not seek to obtain recognition or high position but rather to be His humble servant. He called us in order that we might serve Him, and surrender all to Him. We must always be totally obedient to Him.

We cannot do it on our own, we need the Holy Spirit’s fire and power.

Imagine if our experiences of God and the Holy Spirit are so powerful and life changing how much more we could achieve when we become servants of this almighty and miraculous living God?

Oh, dear Father God! Why can’t everything be so much easier, we cry pitifully?

God uses our troubles, difficulties, trials and tribulations, which we experience in our life to speak to us through them. God said to Moses “What have you got in your hand?” Throw your rod on the ground” Moses did and it became a serpent. Moses ran, he was afraid.

Many people have the very same problem because they are afraid when they see the power of God and run away from what God wants us to do in our lives.

And some people do not believe in miracles or they even mock the Holy Spirit because they have never experienced miracles in their own life. We need to work towards the power of God in our lives and live to see the glory of God manifest in our lives. God cannot fail.

God knows all our weaknesses, and our pain. He knows the convicts in prison, the murderers, the drug addicts, the alcoholics, and He does not condemn any of them..

He calls upon you and me to tell them about Jesus and that His power can break the power that Satan has over them, so that a miracle of receiving Christ will become a testimony in their transformed lives. They will be able to turn away from their old life and become renewed through Jesus Christ.

We say we can’t. But the Bible says that we can through the power of God.

And in Philippians 4: 13 we read:-

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me”.

What keeps us from doing God’s work?

Fear!

Fear is the work of the devil…….

But the power of God gives you enough strength to do His will even though it may prove very difficult to do so

It is the time for a revival and to look ahead to that which is yet to come.

Evangelising comes at a personal cost. We are the servants of the living God and have been called for a Divine purpose. It is, of course, up to us to decide whether we have the will-power to follow Jesus Christ and to become empowered with and by the Holy Spirit.

We need to act with faith and in the knowledge that all things are possible through God and the Holy Spirit. Recognise all the blessings and gifts that you are receiving from them and then use these gifts and talents that we have been given for the glory, praise and honour of the kingdom of God.

We need to fight steadfastly against Satan – taking authority over Him in the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

Our greatest command from God is to evangelise.

In Mark 16:15 Jesus says:-

“Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole of creation. Whoever believes and is baptised will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

And in Matthew 28: 19 Jesus says:-

“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

As we pray and wait on God, the Holy Spirit will put the right words into our mouth. We need not fear, for God is near. The Spirit of the Lord is all the power we need to face any difficulties, for God will always help us overcome as we go in obedience and answer His command, and our faith deeply rooted in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.

The Lord’s Baseball Game

I hope that you will enjoy this as much as I did.

Bob and the Lord stood by to observe a baseball game. The Lord’s team was playing Satan’s team. The Lord’s team was at bat, the score was tied zero to zero, and it was the bottom of the 9th innings with two outs.

They continued to watch as a batter stepped up to the plate whose name was Love. Love swung at the first pitch and hit a single, because Love never fails.

The next batter was named Faith, who also got a single because Faith works with Love.

The next batter up was named Godly Wisdom. Satan wound up and threw the first pitch. Godly Wisdom looked it over and let it pass: Ball one. Three more pitches and Godly Wisdom walked, because Godly Wisdom never swings at what Satan throws.

The bases were now loaded. The Lord then turned to Bob and told him He was now going to bring in His star player. Up to the plate stepped Grace. Bob said, “He sure doesn’t look like much!”

Satan’s whole team relaxed when they saw Grace. Thinking he had won the game, Satan wound up and fired his first pitch. To the shock of everyone, Grace hit the ball harder than anyone had ever seen.

But Satan was not worried; his centre fielder let very few get by. He went up for the ball, but it went right through his glove, hit him on the head and sent him crashing on the ground; then it continued over the fence for a home run!

The Lord’s team won! The Lord then asked Bob if he knew why Love, Faith, and Godly Wisdom could get on base but could not win the game. Bob answered that he did not know why.

The Lord explained, “If your love, faith, and wisdom had won the game you would think you had done it by yourself. Love, Faith and Wisdom will get you on base but only My Grace can get you Home.

Psalm 84:11, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.”

What a wonderful message to us all!

The Snake

There is a story told of a man who was out in the forests of South America, when he saw a bird chirping and fluttering in great distress.

He soon saw why. Creeping along the branch of the tree towards her nest was a great venomous snake, intent on taking her fledglings, who were still helpless in the nest.    Suddenly the bird flew away, and the man thought she had abandoned her chicks.

But no, a few moments later she was back, with a small twig covered in leaves in her mouth. The bird placed this twig over her babies in the nest, and flew to a branch nearby, to watch for the snake’s arrival.

Sure enough,  the snake glided along the branch, and paused in front of the nest. It reared its sleek head, eyes glittering, its tongue darting here and there, ready to strike. Suddenly its tongue came into contact with the twig that the bird had laid across the nest.

The result was dramatic. The snake veered back and away, as if it had been stabbed by the little twig. It swayed for a minute, and then slid quickly off and down the tree, disappearing into the long grass.

The man was fascinated, and carefully lifted the twig off of the nest, wrapped it in a bit of cloth, and took it home with him. He showed the twig to a native friend, asking what it was.  His native friend explained that the twig was from a bush that was poisonous for the snake, and which it was known never to touch. The little helpless bird had used the small twig as her strong defence from attack.

Satan in scripture is known as ‘that old serpent’ He is intent on the destruction of people. But God has told us in his Word that there is a tree which is poison to our enemy, and which offers protection for all of us, old and young alike. It is the cross of Jesus Christ. On the cross Jesus died for our sins.

We need no longer live under evil dominion.

The Rich Man Gave Jesus his House and it Changed his Life!

Once there was this very wealthy young man. He lived in a great, elaborate house with dozens of rooms. Each room was more comfortable and more beautiful than the one before it.

There were paintings and sculptures; crystal chandeliers; golden, ornate railings on the stairs. More beauty than most have ever seen.

One day he decided to invite the Lord to come home and stay with him. When the Lord arrived, this young man offered him the very best room in the house.

The room was upstairs and at the end of the hall. “This room is yours, Jesus! Stay as long as you like and you can do whatever you want to in this room. Remember Jesus, it’s all yours.”

That evening after he had retired for the night there came a loud knocking at the front door. The young man pulled on his robe and made his way downstairs. When he opened the door, he found that the devil had sent three of his demons to attack the man.

He quickly tried to close the door, but one of the demons kept sticking his foot in. Sometime later, after a great struggle, he managed to slam the door shut and returned to his room, totally exhausted.

“Can you believe that,” the man thought. “Jesus is upstairs in my very best room sleeping while I am down here battling demons. Oh, well, maybe he just didn’t hear.” He slept fitfully that night.

The next day thing went along as normal and, being tired as he was, the young man retired early that evening. Along about midnight, there came such a terrible ruckus at the front door that the young man was sure that whatever it was would tear the door down.

He stumbled down the stairs once again and opened the door to find that were dozens of demons now trying to get into his beautiful home.

For more than three hours he fought and struggled against the demons from hell and finally overtook them enough to shut the door against their attack. All energy seemed to fail him. He really didn’t understand this at all. “Why won’t the Lord come to my rescue? Why does he allow me to fight all by myself? I feel so alone.” Troubled, he found his way to the sofa and fell into a restless sleep.

The next morning he decided to inquire of the Lord about the happenings of the last two evenings. Quietly he made his way to the elegant bedroom where he had left Jesus. “Jesus,” he called as he tapped at the door. “Lord, I don’t understand what is happening.

For the last two nights I have had to fight the demons away from my door while you laid up here sleeping. Don’t you care about me? Did I not give you the very best room in the house?”

He could see the tears building in Jesus’ eyes but continued on, “I just don’t understand. I really thought that once I invited you in to live with me that you would take care of me and I gave you the best room in my house and everything. What more can I do?”

“My precious child,” Jesus spoke so softly, “I do love and care for you. I protect all that you have released into my care. But when you invited me to come here and stay, you brought me to this lovely room and you shut the door to the rest of your house. I am Lord of this room but I am not Master of this house. I have protected this room and no demon may enter here.”

“Oh, Lord, please forgive me. Take all of my house – it is yours. I am so sorry that I never offered you all to begin with. I want you to have control of everything.” With this, he flung open the bedroom door and knelt at Jesus’ feet. “Please forgive me, Lord, for being so selfish.”

Jesus smiled and told him that He had already forgiven him and that He would take care of things from now on. That night as the young man prepared for bed, he thought, “I wonder if those demons will return. I am so tired of fighting them each and every night.” But he knew that Jesus said that He would take care of things from now on.

Along about midnight the banging on the door was frightening. The young man slipped out of his room in time to see Jesus going down the stairs. He watched in awe as Jesus swung open the door, no need to be afraid.

Satan stood at the door this time demanding to be let in. “What do you want, Satan?” the Lord asked. The devil bowed low in the presence of the Lord, “So sorry, I seem to have gotten the wrong address.” And with that, he and the demons all ran away.

There is a moral to this tale. Jesus wants all of you, not just a part. He will take all that you give Him but nothing more. How much of your heart have you given to the Lord? Are you keeping a portion of it away from Him?

Perhaps the attacks are coming more and more each day. Why not let the Lord fight the battles for you? He is always victorious.

God made man simple, all of man’s complexities are of his own devising.

People cry out for help because the world is now full of things that brings people into bondage. If you look around you, you will see that there is drug addiction on a massive scale. Drugs are taking control of the lives of innocent young people causing havoc in their lives and destroying family life.

Drug dealers are only interested in making money and are not interested in the life and soul of the drug addict or of their families. Greed for money, drug addictions, murder, rape, sexual and physical abuse, and all other forms of evil, poison our present day society, and draws them away from God.

Our world is full of sin, which is increasing at an alarming rate, day by day, and this gives Satan a stronghold in order to destroy lives. Love and peace have sadly taken a back seat. Many peoples’ souls are in tremendous turmoil.
